The Commercial Band and Electric String Ensemble at the Barbara Ingram School for the Arts are cutting edge ensembles that provide students with real-world experience in performing a variety of popular music styles.
These groups showcase a dynamic range of music from timeless classics to modern hits, covering a broad spectrum from rock and soul to pop and funk. Their repertoire includes well-known songs from iconic and modern artists such as Billy Joel, Journey, Bruno Mars, Chappell Roan, and Stevie Wonder.Both the Commercial Band and Electric Ensemble have established themselves as premiere groups within the Barbara Ingram School for the Arts. Members of these ensembles have consistently been selected for the All State and All Eastern Region Commercial Music Ensembles, showcasing their exceptional skills and dedication.
This year, the Commercial Music Ensemble was notably chosen by the city to perform on the Main Stage at Hagerfest, highlighting their growing reputation and appeal. Additionally, for the second time in its four-year existence, the ensemble was invited to perform at the Maryland Music Educators Association Conference, where they also provided entertainment for the 600 students participating in the All-State Ensembles.
